The E.A.S.Y. Law (S.B. 58) was passed by the 2006 Legislature, and becomes effective July 1, 2006. The E.A.S.Y. Law limits youth access to alcohol in grocery and convenience stores, authorizes law enforcement to conduct random alcohol sales compliance checks, requires mandatory training for each store employee that sells beer or directly supervises the sale of beer and funds a statewide media and education campaign to alert youth, parents, and communities of the dangers of alcohol to the developing teen. The E.A.S.Y. Law may be viewed in its entirety at the Legislature’s website: www.le.state.ut.us. Further implementation details will be posted in the near future.
The E.A.S.Y. rule has now been filed with the Division of Administrative Rules, Department of Administrative Services. The rule will become effective July 1, 2006. To read the rule, click here.
Applications for Off Premise Retailer Alcohol Training and Education Seminar Providers will be accepted after July 1, 2006. To become an approved/certified provider, complete the application found here and return it with your curriculum to the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health.
